School uniforms? School uniforms help with discipline. School uniforms keep schools organized. School uniforms are for safety. This is what the school board claims. My response. If discipline starts at the top, where are the teachers’ uniform? I bet if the teachers where required to wear the same uniform in the same fashion, you wouldn’t find many teachers who would want school uniforms. The best one. School uniforms are for safety and help to identify someone who doesn’t belong. So, using this logic, everyone should wear school uniforms. And for free dress day, the school will and has added security for these days? Or does the school put our kids in harms way just to raise money? Either uniforms add security, or our school board willingly endangers our children for money. You decide. My opinion, school uniforms are used to shove socialism down our throats. This if more factual than any reason the school board has for keeping uniforms. I challedge any and all members of the school board to openly debate school uniforms with me. To the great debate of commissioners and the newspaper. First, I think for myself. I say what I feel is right, popular or not. Simple question. Is the county better off than it was 20 years ago? As far as economic growth, roads and school system. The answer is no. And it always seems to be about money. Well, let us cut down the number of commissioners down to three. I mean maybe if 5 can’t agree and do a good job, maybe three can. And we can use the saving form the wasted salaries to better the county. Same with the school system. Times are hard. Tim Savage says there is no money to pay the bus drivers a fair wage, I think he should take a 20% pay cut and put that towards the bus drivers pay. Hey, maybe it’s time to quit playing politics and do what’s best for the Washington County. Like for starters encourage growth, and fix the roads. And for the school system, maybe we should look at closing a school. Yes, I said it. Is the paper fair and balanced? I think for the most part it is fair. Yes, I do think there is a small amount of politics involved, but overall it does a good job covering the stories and trying to remain neutral. And for the answer to answer the commissioners and school boards question……Yes, I do think I could do a better job than you! If you want some help, just e-mail me. And no, I don't think I could do a better job running a newspaper.

I would like to commend Ashley Vice for the great article in this weeks paper concerning the pavement placed by Commissioner Hilton Robbins. The article was well written and I was thinking the same thoughts when I came across her article. Never ceases to amaze me of how ungrateful people can be. Thanks, Ashley...you do a great job...enjoy reading your articles.

I am so tired of people playing the race card. When are people going to start taking responsibility for their actions? The deal with the Gang stuff is so childish. The most important thing that everyone is missing is the fact the man was caught with DRUGS. I'm not talking about weed I mean serious stuff, crack. If that guy had that stuff on him, he's no first timer. He needed to be taken off the street. YOU DO THE CRIME, YOU DO THE TIME!

I just wanted to say that I thought when Wash Co got a new sheriff things would change. I was wrong; extremely wrong. The court system of Washington Co is as bad as ever. By this I mean is when you have a habitual liars constantly pulling the wool over the Judge and DA. I wish someone would head out to Chatom and clean house, but I know that will never happen.

All of the Alabama Gang B>S> is just a racial thing thats seems as if it will never change in poor little Chatom, AL. My cousin worked hard for his vehicle, now that he has some rims on it he's a so called gang member. So what about all the drunk underage whites that get caught in the middle of town and gets to call there parents to come get them, were if that was one of us, things would be a little different right. By the way my name is BRANDON TERRELL HOLCOMBE if you are wondering who would say something like this....

Millry Town Council approves a 1% sales tax increase and the orginal reason cited for the increase was the increase in dispatching fees. The sales tax is estimated to generate 40 to 60 thousand per year. The mayor said the max they could afford for dispatching was $6,000-$4,000 short of what is needed. The mayor stated that due to the increase in dispatching fees, he fears night shifts for police officers would have to be cut completely. The Town Council approves the 1% sales tax and then votes to earmark it for the Towns $100,000 stake in the new childrens park. Where are our priorites? Better the town with a new childrens park or provide Police presence and protection to all residents of Millry. We need to monitor our leaders and make sure they are looking out for the good of all.

Jason I agree with you completely that E911 dispatchers should be better trained. When residents of Washington County and those traveling thru our county need help, they should be able to dial 911 and receive qualified assistance. Dispatchers should be trained in all aspects prior to being released to the radio and phone. We expect our police officers, fire fighters and EMS workers to be certified and to continue training. 911 is our lifeline when we are experiencing an emergency. We should have qualified individuals with excellent knowledge of our county. There is an E911 Board appointed to govern the affairs of E911 along with a hired Director to oversee the day to day operations. The residents of Washington County PAY for Enhanced 911 service if they have a home phone or a cell phone-you are not required to pay this but you must call to have it removed. Residents don't wait until you have an emergency to see if the system works-by then it may be too late. Keep up the great work Jason.

I agree with Jason on that the dispatchers should be trained. By law they are suppose to be EMD certified. In case of an emergency they can advise an individual what to do until trained personnel can arrive. Keep up the good work Jason. You are staying on top of some important info that is getting left out. Thanks, Brock

Iagree with Jason it is time to have trained dispatchers inall fields. The dispatchers should be trained in emergence medical dispatch so they can give life saveing instructions over the phone. I believe it is the law for them to be EMD trained.
